When Venera Beqiri took over the venerable city apartment from 1890, she was thrilled with the high ceilings and the light from the four large windows. The room layout, however, was not particularly good.
“The apartment had two equally large living rooms and a tiny kitchen. We removed a wall and got fantastic light and a sense of space – but we wanted a guest room with office space. At the same time, we wanted to keep the lovely daylight. I’d seen a stylish New York loft-style glass wall at a viewing and wondered if it would work here.”

Classic apartment with a rough twist
Venera went to Garderobemekka in Lørenskog and saw several similar solutions there. A new industrial-style kitchen had just been ordered, and she saw that sliding glass doors with black frames would create the ultimate link between the classic apartment and the rustic kitchen.
“This fitted perfectly into the overall concept of our apartment. It was also important to us that it wasn’t too expensive – the sliding door solution turned out to be comparable in price to a new lightweight wall. I initially considered wrought iron, but aluminum sliding doors turned out to be much more affordable,” says a satisfied Venera Beqiri.

“We had smooth communication all the way, and the installers were agile and skilled. It’s all turned out surprisingly well, and we’ve received lots of praise and positive comments from guests.”

He explains that densification in central areas means that living units are getting smaller and smaller, and space utilization and flexibility are becoming increasingly important.
