Wardrobe expert Solveig’s top tips
Are you buying a sliding door wardrobe and need a little crash course? Here are our wardrobe expert Solveig’s top 10 tips for you.

GARDEROBEMEKKA delivers and installs custom-made sliding door wardrobes in Oslo, Bærum & Asker, Lørenskog, Fredrikstad, Trondheim and Forus, at the best price on the market.
1) Plan the doors before you start thinking about interior design
Read more about how to design your own sliding doors here. In our blog post “How to plan your new sliding door wardrobe” you’ll find more tips and advice.
2) Take measurements of the wardrobe
Start by measuring the height, width and depth of the place where the wardrobe will be installed so you know what is possible. The room determines the proportions of the doors and thus also the division into any compartments. You can find our measurement guide here: How to take the right measurements?
3) Design the doors for the room
If the room is low and wide, you can trick the eye with vertical bars that give the illusion of a higher room. Narrower vertical panels give a softer impression.

4) Add a little extra in the sliding doors in the hallway
The hallway is the first room your guests see. If you’re designing a sliding door wardrobe for the hallway, it’s a good idea to invest a little extra in stylish doors to make a good first impression! Large mirrors in the hallway are practical and add depth to a small room.
5) Take into account the lighting conditions in the room
Mirrors on sliding doors can also be practical in the bedroom, but think about how the light is reflected. How is the wardrobe positioned in relation to the window? How will reflections from lamps, digital clocks and phones be reflected? Sooty mirrors or bronze mirrors provide less reflection and calmer surfaces than clear mirrors.

6) Add color to the room
At Garderobemekka, you can order sliding doors in exactly the RAL color you want. If you find it daunting to choose the color of the doors, you can paint the walls and ceiling of the room instead, and reflect your favorite color by choosing sliding doors with a clear mirror.
7) Black profiles and details are important in the current trend
It’s easy to create a cohesive style with black details, and they work well with stained glass, dark doors, mirrors and natural colors.

8) Choose furnishings with your storage needs in mind
Organize your closet with an eye to what goes in there and what you need to get hold of most often. Which clothes do you wear the most? Should they be hanging or lying around? Do you want things other than clothes in the closet? How much space do you need? Should several people share the same closet? What’s the most practical way to do it? Garderobemekka has a wide range of fittings – baskets, shelves and different types of hangers. And remember: it doesn’t have to be symmetrical behind the doors, where function is most important.

9) Ask professionals for help!
A drawing lesson in the store or online is a great way to see what will look good in your particular room. Just remember to measure first, so you can plot the correct measurements and see the proportions of both sliding doors and furnishings.
