This is how the sliding door wardrobe should look now!

Are you looking for a new sliding door wardrobe and wondering what the trends are? Our wardrobe expert Solveig Hildre gives you the overview!

“If I were to summarize the trend in a single word, it would have to be dark. Dark sliding doors with black glazing bars and black details are what we sell the most of,” says Garderobemekka’s own wardrobe expert, Solveig Hildre.

The dark trend

The dark trend has been going on for a while, and the demand is still growing. That’s why Garderobemekka is currently releasing two sought-after newcomers: Black wardrobe fittings and sliding doors in black matt glass. At the same time, the chain is launching a black days campaign, with great prices on all black products. Solveig predicts that the matt black doors will be a bestseller.

“People have been asking for this for a long time, and these fronts look incredibly stylish with black profiles. The profiles also have a matte finish reminiscent of wrought iron, and if you choose this in combination with sooty mirrors, it gives an exclusive look,” she says.

Black profiles

Black profiles are generally very trendy right now, whether you go for the all-dark look or choose the New York loft style with tempered glass or mirrors. The New York loft trend has taken off and is used in everything from shower solutions and wall mirrors to sliding doors. Wardrobe expert Solveig makes no secret of the fact that it’s a personal favorite.

“A New York loft-style wall is a jewel in the room and a real eye-catcher. If you choose sliding doors in this style, it’s an inexpensive alternative to the more expensive wrought iron version,” she says.

When it comes to black profiles, the options are endless. Black glass and sooty mirror with black profiles is the most popular combination right now, but clear mirror is also very popular, especially in the hallway. In the bedroom, many choose a sooty mirror for a more subdued look.

More and more colors

But what about the colors? Aren’t the experts predicting that color is making a comeback in interiors?

“Colour in interiors is definitely a growing trend,” confirms Solveig. “But most people prefer to paint the walls in their favourite colours, and gradually also the ceiling and window frames. And they’re opting for mirrors on the wardrobes that pick up the color of the walls, because the wardrobe is a major investment that will last a long time,” says Solveig Hildre.

But if you’re the colorful type and you’ve had the same favorite color for a long time, you have the opportunity to design a completely unique sliding door wardrobe. At Garderobemekka, you can have your sliding doors painted in any RAL color – just the way you want it. “There aren’t many colored doors on display in our stores at the moment, but Solveig promises that they will be.

“It’s probably easier to choose colors when you see the doors on display in full size and get a real impression of them,” she says.

Symmetry a clear trend

White, discreet sliding door wardrobes have been very popular for a long time, and many still want to go for this classic variant. But Solveig sees that many people come into the store with a desire for simple, white wardrobes and end up changing their minds when they see all the options.

“There are so many great options that people don’t know about. But if you go for white, we have doors in both glossy and matt glass, which people like to combine with clear mirrors. If you want something bright, light and simple, this is a safe choice.”

When it comes to dividing up the fronts, symmetry is a clear current trend. Basically, you can choose to place the panels exactly as you like and have different doors, but most people nowadays go for a unified and symmetrical expression. Where the transoms are placed depends on the proportions of the room, but Solveig sees a clear trend here too.

“Now it’s very popular to have three panels, with the middle panel covering 60% of the surface and the panels above and below covering 20% each. Whether you go for 2, 3 or 4 doors depends, of course, on the size of the room and what’s practical for you. Here it’s the use that should decide – not the trends,” concludes Solveig Hildre.
