Decorate your wardrobe smartly!

The dream of more storage space is fairly widespread. But sometimes we just have to put our finger in the ground and realize what we can do. With smart furnishings adapted to what we actually need closet space for, even a small sliding door wardrobe can become space-efficient and functional.

Whether you’re furnishing a large and luxurious walk-in wardrobe or a small sliding door wardrobe, planning is the key to success. After all, there are many options when it comes to interior design, and how the wardrobe should be furnished depends entirely on your needs. Here, area manager for Greater Oslo, Tor Arne Moss Westlund, gives his guide to smart interior design.

Four important questions

– “I usually ask my customers a few questions when they’re planning good interior design. The answers to these questions say most about what you should choose,” says Westlund.

1) How big is the wardrobe?
– To know how much space you have, you need the right measurements of your wardrobe. Our wardrobe interiors are made up of sections. The sections come in widths of 45, 55 and 75 cm, and can therefore be easily adapted to your room and your storage needs. The depth of the cabinet itself is 50 cm, and when the doors are in place, the depth of the entire wardrobe is 60 cm. If you have our smallest wardrobe variant with a depth of 40 cm, the interior options are a little more limited.

2) Which room should the wardrobe be in?
– Different furnishings are needed for wardrobes in hallways and bedrooms. In the hallway, it’s natural to plan storage for hats, mittens, shoes and outerwear, perhaps also bicycle helmets and other equipment. And in the hallway, there are often many people who need their own space in a clear system. This requires a different type of storage than in a bedroom, where you might need hanging space for dresses and suits, baskets for exercise clothes or shelves for bedding.

3) What kind of clothes do you have?
– Or we can ask it another way: Who are you? A lawyer needs hanging space for many suits, a carpenter will store his work clothes in a different way. Go through your laundry and see what you have and how you prefer to store it. It’s also a good idea to take a reality check on the amount of clothes you have – most people probably have more than they think. Not everything needs to be on display all the time. What do you MUST have room for in this particular wardrobe?

4) What is your budget?
– There are big price differences in interior design. A quality drawer is significantly more expensive than a quality basket. If you’re going to hide your furniture behind a door anyway, it’s a good idea to think practically and economically. And if you’re going to have drawers, don’t save money in the short term by choosing poor quality. Good quality lasts for years and is an investment you won’t regret. At Garderobemekka, we are committed to having a selection that suits different customers’ budgets, because the wardrobe dream should be achievable. But we don’t compromise on quality,” Westlund emphasizes.

Large selection of furnishings

Garderobemekka has a large selection of fittings in two basic colors, white and black. The black decor was a newcomer in 2022, has a matte finish and is a very stylish combination with the New York Loft style with black profiles. The white decor is a stayer in the market and is still preferred by many. No matter which color you choose, you have the same components to choose from: Wardrobe rods, shelves, drawers, wire baskets, trouser pull-outs and shoe racks.

Clothes rails are not a revolutionary innovation in the field of clothes storage, but this classic has stayed with us for good reason. Clothes rails provide a good and easy overview of the clothes you have, are extremely space-saving and can also save you both time and extra ironing. We recommend thinking about multi-storey wardrobe rails when planning wardrobe fittings. It’s a good way to utilize the space and height.

When you’re decorating a wardrobe, you’ll quickly realize that there’s a lot to fit in there. Traditional shelving provides plenty of space for lots of clothes in the same place and is perfect for sweaters, trousers and knitwear. You can also take advantage of crooked corners with an open shelving solution, which is great for dividing with beautiful baskets or boxes.

Drawer interiors make it easier to keep your clothes in order, while giving you a much better overview of what you have. Garderobemekka has two types of drawers: high-quality wooden drawers and durable wire baskets that give you a quick overview of the contents. Place wooden drawers in the lower part of the wardrobe for easy access. The wire baskets can be rearranged as you like, so they are perfect for seasonal clothes. The wire baskets also provide extra ventilation and are great for storing exercise clothes, for example. Both wooden drawers and wire baskets can be pulled out completely, so you can easily access clothes and small items that may have ended up inside. The drawers can be supplied with soft-close, so you can just give them a little push and they close quietly by themselves.

Avoid wrinkled trousers by hanging them neatly on a smart trouser hanger. Simply fold the trousers over the hanger and you’ll have plenty of room for 12 trousers side by side.

Garderobemekka has several variants of shoe racks, depending on what you like to wear on your feet. The shoe racks are adapted to both the wardrobe interior and the interior racks. A smart and versatile solution is a two-step pull-out shoe shelf that gives you easier access to your shoes. This angled shelf is particularly good for flat shoes, men’s shoes and maybe mountain boots? The second rack is particularly suitable for high-heeled shoes. This also has two steps, so there is room for two pairs of shoes in depth, and can be pulled out as single drawers.
