Small hallway feels big and spacious

In a brand new house, you want to do everything right, and Ingeborg Aas and her partner were ready to invest in a proper wardrobe in the hallway. And in collaboration with the professionals at Garderobemekka, they have succeeded in making the most of the small space.

“Our hallway isn’t that big, only 5 ½ square meters, so we had to think smart. With floor-to-ceiling mirrors, the room feels much bigger, there’s a big difference visually,” says Ingeborg happily.

Good advice

When Ingeborg contacted Garderobemekka, she knew one thing for sure: She wanted mirrors integrated into the sliding door wardrobe in the hallway. But she didn’t know what else it should look like, either inside or out. Fortunately, there was good advice to be had.

“We hadn’t designed a wardrobe solution before, so we were on shaky ground. But there were lots of great options to look at in the store at Alnabru, and in the end we found something that would work. We were given good advice on interior design, and ended up following a display model that suited our needs.”

Ingeborg’s hallway is initially relatively bright, with white walls and dark floor tiles. This is a good starting point for a hallway, according to Tor Arne Moss Westlund, Regional Manager at Garderobemekka Oslo.

“It’s a good idea to choose light colors in the hallway, because this is often a small room. Dark colors shrink the room, light colors expand. And a sliding door wardrobe with a mirror is both functional and space-saving. In the hallway, it’s important to think practically – this is where we get ready for the hallway and where we receive guests,” he says.

Mirrors from floor to ceiling

Ingeborg and her partner ended up with sooty floor-to-ceiling mirrors with black frames around them, so that the mirror goes all the way down and reflects the entire hallway. Here they are completely in line with the trend, according to Tor Arne Moss Westlund.

“People are generally interested in clean lines in sliding door wardrobes, and floor-to-ceiling mirrors have become very common,” he says.

For Ingeborg, this was a happy choice, and she is very grateful for all the good advice and tips from the professionals at Garderobemekka.

“We had a very useful and enlightening dialog with the professionals, both in the store and when they were here on inspection. They were great sparring partners, and we threw suggestions back and forth – until we came up with a great solution for our hallway,” Ingeborg concludes happily.
